After living here for more than 10 years, I can confidently say that Lagos is the perfect destination<\/strong> for anyone who loves nature, beaches, the ocean, and outdoor adventure.<\/p>\n

One of the best things to do in Lagos Algarve is without a doubt the boat tour to the Ponta da Piedade caves<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Ponta da Piedade is one of the most impressive natural landscapes in Portugal. The coastline is formed by golden cliffs, natural arches, and sea caves<\/strong> carved by the ocean over thousands of years.<\/p>\n

The view from above is already beautiful, but seeing it from the sea is simply spectacular.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Most boat tours in Lagos depart from Lagos Marina and last around 60 to 75 minutes.<\/p>\n

During the tour, the boat enters the caves and passes famous rock formations such as:<\/p>\n

However, if you’re looking for a truly unique experience, I recommend a private charter<\/strong>. Besides offering more comfort and exclusivity, private charters often explore other parts of the Algarve coast as well.<\/p>\n

If you only have time to do one activity in Lagos, this is the one I always recommend.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you want to experience Lagos like a local, set aside a full day to explore some of these beaches.<\/p>\n

A long wooden staircase descends the cliffs to a small but stunning beach.<\/p>\n

This is my favorite beach during the summer, but be prepared: after enjoying the beach, you’ll have to climb the stairs back up.<\/p>\n

Also pay attention during high tide, as the beach can become quite small with limited space.<\/p>\n

Praia Dona Ana<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is probably the most famous beach in Lagos.<\/p>\n

It’s very popular with tourists thanks to its calm waters and beautiful rock formations in the sea.<\/p>\n

There is also a beachfront restaurant and a few water activity options.<\/p>\n

This is also where some of the oldest boat tours to the Ponta da Piedade caves depart from.<\/p>\n

Meia Praia<\/strong><\/p>\n

A huge beach stretching for several kilometers.<\/p>\n

Perfect for:<\/p>\n

long walks<\/p>\n

sports activities<\/p>\n

relaxing by the sea<\/p>\n

It’s also one of my personal favorites.<\/p>\n

I usually prefer the eastern side of the beach, which tends to be quieter.<\/p>\n

However, be aware that on very windy days the beach can become uncomfortable since it is quite exposed. If the wind is above 15 knots, it might not be the best option.<\/p>\n

Praia da Batata<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is the closest beach to the historic center of Lagos.<\/p>\n

Because of that, it’s usually very busy with tourists.<\/p>\n

In reality, it’s a combination of three small beaches and coves, often with calm and protected waters.<\/p>\n

It’s a great option if you want convenience and are staying near the old town.<\/p>\n

Praia de Porto de M\u00f3s<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is often considered the locals’ beach.<\/p>\n

It’s wider and more relaxed, with two beach restaurants and a perfect atmosphere for spending the entire day.<\/p>\n

During the summer, sea temperatures usually reach 20-22\u00b0C (68-72\u00b0F), which is quite pleasant for swimming.<\/p>\n

For those who enjoy hiking, the Fishermen’s Trail is an excellent option.<\/p>\n

This route is part of the famous Rota Vicentina, one of the most beautiful hiking trails in Portugal.<\/p>\n

One section connects the city of Lagos to the village of Praia da Luz.<\/p>\n

The full route is about 12 km (7.5 miles) long, following dramatic cliffs and coastal paths with spectacular views. However, the section I recommend most is between Porto de M\u00f3s Beach and Praia da Luz (around 3.5 km \/ 2.2 miles), or you can hike to the geodesic marker and back (around 6 km \/ 3.7 miles).<\/p>\n

Start the walk at Porto de M\u00f3s Beach. When you arrive at the beach, look to your right side, where you’ll see a clearly marked trail next to the Campimar restaurant.<\/p>\n

On clear days, you can see a large stretch of the Algarve coastline, and sometimes even areas near Sagres.<\/p>\n
